The Protection and Rescue Sector of the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina was established in 2004 as the Department of Civil Protection. Sector is managed by Assistant Minister for protection and rescue Dr. Samir Agic.
In accordance with Article 14, line 7 of the Law of Ministries and other government authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the area of protection and rescue, the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina is responsible for:
- Implementation of international obligations and cooperation in the implementation of civil protection;
- Coordinating the activities of the Entity of civil defense services in BiH and harmonization of their plans in the case of natural or other disasters afflicting BiH,
- Adoption of programs and plans for protection and rescue.
The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at its 83rd session held on 09.04.2009. year, gave its approval to the new Rulebook on internal organization of the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In accordance with this, regulation was adopted and new systematization of jobs, according to which the Civil Protection Department changed its name to The Protection and Rescue Department within which was established the Operational Communication Center-112.
According to the present regulations and the new systematization of jobs Sector for Protection and Rescue is consisted of:
- Department of International Cooperation and Coordination,
- Department of Strategic Planning, Protection and rescue measures,
- Department of structure and training
- Operational Communication Center-112
At lower levels of protection and rescue system, they formed operational functioning entities of Civil Protection Administration (Federal Civil Protection Administration of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic Administration of Civil Protection of the Republic of Srpska) and the Department of Public Safety of the Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Civil Protection).
